You can buy a ticket, but few airlines offer any kind of discount for same-day. I’d recommend researching Southwest and Jet Blue (if they glide from Ontario).
The sooner you buy a ticket the better because if you wait around till time to go the price will be alot higher plus there may not much available seating. You can make your reservation through the airline’s web-site and get electronic tickets and you won’t have to worry about keeping up with a paper ticket.
You sure can. You can sign up for stand bye also. Only drawback is if you have appointments reservations or other plans you may not make. Red Eye’s are your best bet of course. You can parouse the airline sites for the route you want to take to see how full they are so you can pinpoint your best bets.
That is a thing of the past. Best discounts are bought way in advance of a flight. Walk-up rates at the last minute are the most expensive.
You certainly can attempt this, but I wouldn’t expect a discount of any sort. In fact, you’ll probably pay more, much more, than you would had you booked in advance.
Book online, that’s where the best deals are.
