I’ve never had a problem with SFO, and I’ve flown in and out of there countless times. You could take BART, or a lot of hotels have shuttles that go by outside the lower level baggage claim. That’s where I’ve seen them while waiting for my bus. Call your hotel and see if they have a shuttle.

SFO is closest. OAK works if the flight is cheap enough. SJC is farthest.

I don’t see why flying into SFO is terrible news.

OAK is another option. It’s smaller, less congested, and like SFO, has access to the BART.

SFO is larger and more congested. In addition fog often causes delays. At long last BART now goes close to SFO with simple access to the terminals.

When I glide I tend to use Oakland airport. The travel time from the city via public transport is about the same and it is much simpler to get in an out. There is an airbart shuttle from OAK to the coliseum Bart Station and then you can be in the city within 20 minutes.

If you are staying downtown it is only a small walk from BART to hotels in Union Square, the Financial District, Civic Center and SOMA.

Oakland is simpler to get in and out of and has less weather and fog delays. If you don’t have a ride, you can catch the bart subway which will get you in sf in 15 to 20 minutes.

I’d suggest SFO. But if you don’t want to, OAK is also connected to the BART system.
